Mitzpe Ramon Prison, a Torture Site for Palestinian Prisoners
The harsh living circumstances of Palestinian inmates in the recently constructed Mitzpe Ramon prison have been denounced by the Palestinian Commission for Prisoners and Former Prisoners of War, which has called their everyday existence "catastrophic."
In a statement, the commission cautioned that the inmates' health and welfare are gravely threatened by the facility's current conditions.
According to the statement, Ramon, one of the Israeli detention camps recently built following the continuous aggression against the Gaza Strip, is an example of the ongoing violations of international law by the Zionist authorities. The statement noted that these measures have significantly exacerbated the suffering of Palestinian prisoners.
Inhumane conditions in Ramon prison
According to the committee, the prison is overcrowded, with 10 cells that can house 15–17 inmates apiece. According to reports, the packed quarters are terrible. Mattresses that are thin and worn out provide little sleep and no defense against the bitter cold.
The inmates' agony is exacerbated by the chill from the cold iron beds, which seeps deeply and causes bodily anguish and discomfort. These circumstances make it nearly impossible to sleep, and the beds' persistent cold and hardness make it difficult to rest, which exacerbates both physical and emotional suffering.
In addition to the harsh circumstances and overcrowding, prisoners are denied access to basic necessities. According to the commission, some inmates have been unable to take a shower for more than a month, and others have been refused access to hot water. The inmates' suffering is made worse by the lack of appropriate medical care, and many of them are singled out for worsening health concerns as a result of receiving subpar care.
The four windows in each cell are positioned to let in rainwater, which makes the cold even more intolerable. The inmates lack winter gear, and the blankets that are provided are flimsy and outdated. Those who ask for winter clothes will be punished.
The international world, humanitarian organizations, and human rights organizations have been urged by the Palestinian Commission for inmates and Former Prisoners of War to speak out against the abuses of the inmates and take action. The Commission emphasized how critical it is to safeguard inmates' lives and dignity under such trying circumstances.
Tortured prisoners
The Israeli regime recently released 20 Palestinian prisoners through the Karim Abu Salem crossing in the southeast of the Gaza Strip. The prisoners were detained during the Israeli offensive on northern Gaza that began on October 5.
A Palestinian source confirmed that the released prisoners were taken to the European Hospital in Gaza, east of Khan Yunis, for medical examinations.
The source said: 20 Palestinians entered the hospital after being released by the Israeli army at the Karim Abu Salem crossing.
The released prisoners reported that they had been tortured during their detention by the occupation forces. Medical teams are currently conducting full examinations to assess their health.
