Baghaei: No response from the US on indirect negotiations
Regarding the measures of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to confront the continuation of crimes in Gaza, Baghaei said: We are facing a special and catastrophic situation in terms of violating all norms and rules of international law.
He added: Human rights and the principles of the United Nations Charter have been violated in particular in the past 2 years; the deliberate attack on aid workers is one of them.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized: There is no doubt that the policy of the Zionist regime, with the support of the US, is to erase Palestine as a nation from the region; we are facing a process of normalizing evil that is worrying; the presence of Zionist officials in Europe is a setback for civilization and makes genocide seem natural.
Baghaei emphasized: The consequences of war are not and will not remain limited to our region, and we ask the Security Council to fulfill its duties.
In another part, regarding the call between Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Baghaei said: In this call, considering the developments of those days and the current developments, we raised our concerns and considerations and announced our expectations from the Agency.
He also stated: An agreement in principle was reached for the Director General's visit to Iran; the details and plans of the trip are under discussion and will be announced as soon as the time of the trip and the meetings are finalized.
The spokesman for the foreign diplomacy also referred to the continued threats of the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities and said: The Agency must fulfill its duties and we emphasize this issue; we will also emphasize this issue during Grossi's visit to Iran.
Regarding the US response to Iran’s proposal for indirect negotiations, Baghaei said: We did not receive a response from the US about indirect negotiations.
He added: The record of participation of other parties in advancing indirect negotiations is clear; Oman will be one of the main candidates to mediate for indirect negotiations.
Referring to rumors about negotiations with the US, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said: No negotiations have started and the related news is false.
He clarified: Trump’s response letter was given; we are waiting for the US decision; Iran’s proposal for indirect negotiations is generous and based on a responsible decision considering the record; for now, we prefer to focus on our proposal.
Baghaei also stated regarding the Iranian delegation for negotiations: The compositions proposed are all media speculation; the Foreign Ministry is responsible for advancing any type of negotiation; Occasional talk about negotiators is speculation.
He also stated that the difference between direct and indirect negotiations can be seen in the process of Iran's nuclear negotiations, and said: We conducted direct negotiations during the former US president's term; indirect negotiations are a tried and tested model, and if indirect negotiations do not yield results, it is not a reason for being indirect; indirect negotiations are not unconventional; this trend can be observed in other cases.
In response to Mizan's question about Western countries' support for the Zionist regime and their refusal to issue arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Zionist officials, Baghaei said: We are all witnessing these dual approaches that have raised many questions in the minds of international and regional public opinion; it is quite clear that this view is based on a lack of belief in human rights standards; they cannot adopt a dual approach to an incident and a violation.
He added: "If crimes and genocide are reprehensible in a region and at a specific point in time, they are morally and legally obligated to take an appropriate stance against the same thing at another time and place; the approach of many European countries in this regard is unfortunately indefensible; if for any reason they do not have the desire or will to confront a lawlessness, at least they should not help to perpetuate and normalize it."
