Araghchi in meeting with Lavrov: Iran will not negotiate under pressure and threats
Seyyed Abbas Araghchi and Sergey Lavrov, the Foreign Ministers of Iran and Russia, attended a joint press conference on Tuesday, after meeting and consulting.
Iran and Russia’s positions on Syria are close
Araghchi said in this press conference: “We had constructive and detailed talks and reviewed all the different issues; we consulted on bilateral and economic cooperation that is progressing rapidly.”
He continued: “Our cooperation is taking place in the fields of energy, railways, agriculture, tourism, etc.; we had good discussions on regional issues.”
Regarding the approaches of the two sides towards Palestine, the Foreign Minister stated: We had detailed discussions on Palestine and naturally we condemned the crimes of the Zionist regime; the new plan for the forced displacement of the people of Gaza was discussed in our conversation; the united position of the regional countries on this plan has been adopted and a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will be held soon.
Stating that our positions on Syria are also close, the Foreign Minister said: We want stability and peace; Iran has supported the axis of resistance and will continue this process; resistance groups are fighting for just and correct ideals.
Araghchi emphasized: We are seeking peace in the Caucasus and are ready to help; At the same time, developments in Afghanistan are of interest to both countries.
The Foreign Minister also said regarding the nuclear issue and its related negotiations: We had consultations on nuclear issues; legal and expert teams are in constant contact and we will continue these contacts; I justified Lavrov about the talks with Europe and explained to him, and we will move in this direction in coordination with Russia and China; Iran's position is completely clear and we will not negotiate under pressure, threats, or sanctions.
The capacity for diplomacy for the JCPOA still exists
Lavrov also emphasized in this press conference that our contacts with Iran will continue, saying: Trade exchanges between the two countries have increased.
He clarified: We reviewed international and regional issues; the two countries are trying to resolve conflicts at the global level based on the UN Charter; we reviewed regional and international issues; the situation in the Middle East and Palestine is worrying.
In another part, the Russian Foreign Minister announced: We also consulted about the JCPOA and the capacity for diplomacy still exists.
Lavrov stated that we are in coordination with the Iranian side and have a lot of momentum in our trade exchanges with Tehran, and said: We are working to reduce the negative effects of sanctions on our economy and we have political dialogue with Iran at the highest level.
He emphasized: Russia and Iran support the resolution of conflicts in accordance with international law and UN principles; the territorial integrity of Syria and the unity of its people are important to us; the problems of the Middle East, especially the Palestinian issue, must be resolved based on UN resolutions; we are grateful for Iran's balanced position on the conflict in Ukraine.
