Araghchi: The beginning of political talks in Syria was emphasized
Seyyed Abbas Araghchi stressed the need for an immediate end to the Syrian conflicts on Saturday afternoon following the Astana Process Foreign Ministers' meeting in Doha, Qatar, which was attended by the foreign ministers of Iran, Russia, and Turkey.
"We had a very good Astana Process meeting with the foreign ministers of Turkey and Russia today, and at the end of the meeting, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Syria joined the meeting," Araghchi told reporters in a statement.
He said that "current issues in Syria were discussed in this meeting," further stating: "It was emphasized in this meeting that the conflicts in Syria must end immediately, that the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria must be respected, that the UN resolution on this matter be referred to, and that political talks between the Syrian government and legitimate Syrian opposition groups begin."
This high-ranking diplomat of the Islamic Republic of Iran also said, "It was agreed that we will talk to the Syrian government in this regard. I will hold my consultations with Damascus, and Russia will also hold consultations and talks with Syrian authorities, and God willing, we will move forward by consulting with other governments."
