UN calls for immediate ceasefire in Gaza
According to Al Jazeera, the resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza was adopted by a total of 158 votes out of 193 members of the UN General Assembly, with 9 votes against and 13 abstentions.
The resolution calls on all parties in Gaza to declare and implement an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The United States and the Israeli regime were among the opponents of the resolution in the UN General Assembly.
The resolution emphasizes the vital and important mission of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in providing humanitarian services to Palestinian refugees.
The members of the United Nations General Assembly, while expressing deep regret over the recent adoption of a law by the Knesset (Israeli parliament) on October 28, 2024, which prohibits the activities of the UNRWA agency in the occupied territories, stressed the need for continued financial and political support for this international agency.
In this resolution, the UN General Assembly called on the Israeli regime to respect UNRWA’s obligations and allow this international institution to carry out its duties without any obstacles or restrictions.
