After the White House threatened China with 245% tariffs, Beijing’s Foreign Ministry urged Washington to stop applying maximum pressure if it genuinely seeks to resolve issues through dialogue.

According to the Global Times, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, responding to a question about the White House statement claiming China now faces 245% tariffs on imports due to its retaliatory actions, said: “You can ask the American side for specific tax rate figures.”

Lin Jian stated: “China has repeatedly expressed its firm stance on the tariff issue. The tariff war was initiated by the U.S. If the United States truly wants to resolve issues through dialogue, it should stop exerting maximum pressure.”

The Chinese diplomat added: “Beijing has taken necessary countermeasures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests, as well as international fairness and justice, which are entirely reasonable and legal. Tariffs and trade wars have no winners. China does not want to engage in these wars but is not afraid of them.”

Late Tuesday local time, the White House announced that China now faces 245% tariffs on imports to the U.S. as a result of its retaliatory actions.
