Former South Korean Defense Minister Arrested
One of the main players in the short-lived martial law declaration was the former South Korean defense minister, who resigned last Wednesday.
According to a senior military official and files prepared by opposition parties for the impeachment of South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol, Kim suggested that Yoon declare martial law.
The opposition parties’ previous attempt to impeach the South Korean president failed when lawmakers from the ruling party did not participate.
The South Korean prosecutors’ special investigation team has questioned Kim, who voluntarily appeared at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office.
Three opposition parties have filed a complaint with the prosecutors’ office against Yoon, Kim and the commander of the martial law, accusing them of treason.
The South Korean president has previously apologized for declaring martial law and said that there will be no such order again.
