Syrian army command declares fall of Assad’s government
The army command issued the statement early on Sunday following reports of the armed groups’ entrance in Damascus. Reuters, citing two army officers, said that Assad had earlier on Sunday flown out of Damascus for an unknown destination before the groups reached the city.
Some regional sources say that Damascus Airport has been taken out of the control of Bashar al-Assad's government forces. Some sources also claim that the Syrian state-run radio and television has fallen.
After the announcement of the fall of the country's government by armed groups, Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad al-Jalali said: "We in the Council of Ministers extend our hand to every Syrian citizen who is concerned about the future and decisions of this country, and we ask citizens not to damage or harm public and government property." Al-Jalali said: "I surrender and am ready to cooperate with whoever the Syrian people choose."
