The hard days of the Palestinians hero in the notorious Israeli prison

Mohammad Al-Ramlawi told Al Jazeera Mubasher that he had met Abu Safiya shortly before his release. “Two days before I left the prison, we were surprised to see Dr. Abu Safiya enter the cell where we were held late at night. I was shocked when I saw him because he had helped me a lot earlier at Kamal Adwan Hospital. We cried bitterly for his condition because he is a national figure.”

Abu Safiya, he added, spoke about the mistreatment and violations he endured during his detention, saying: “I swear, I was humiliated, and the army treated me terribly when they arrested me.”

Abu Safiya, Al-Ramlawi said, shared details of his arrest from Kamal Adwan Hospital, including how the Israeli occupation army killed five medical staff in front of him before setting the hospital on fire and said that he was beaten and insulted during his arrest.

Al-Ramlawi pointed out that Abu Safiya suffered psychologically and physically during his detention, adding that he had asked him to tell his family of his whereabouts and call on the international community to take action to secure his release.

The two men had spent two days together before Al-Ramlawi was released.

Another freed prisoner, Mustafa Hassouna, stated that the interrogations with Abu Safiya primarily focused on Israeli prisoners in Gaza. However, Abu Safiya told the interrogators that he had no information on the matter as he specializes in pediatrics. He added that he was under immense pressure due to the occupation’s practices.

The Israeli army detained Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya late last month from Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, released a video of him walking into an Israeli military vehicle only to later deny knowledge of his whereabouts.
