UN General Assembly adopts resolution on Palestinian right to self-determination

Category: World ، General
The UN General Assembly has overwhelmingly adopted a resolution affirming the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.

Only Israel, the United States, Micronesia, Argentina, Paraguay, Papua New Guinea, and Nauru voted against the resolution, while eight other nations abstained. The resolution was reportedly passed by 172 votes in favor.

The resolution was warmly received by the Palestinians, who said it affirmed their people's unalienable right to self-determination, which is a cornerstone of the UN Charter.

The decision followed an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice, which declared that the Israeli presence in the occupied Palestinian territories was illegal and that the Palestinians' right to self-determination must be respected.

On December 11, 2024, the UN General Assembly also passed two other resolutions, which included demands for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), an exchange of prisoners, and an immediate and unconditional stop to attacks on Gaza.
