France's new prime minister appointed

French President Emmanuel Macron's center-right ally, François Bayrou, was named the nation's new prime minister on Friday, according to the Elysee Palace.

The center-right Democratic Movement party, which Bayrou, 73, leads, is a crucial ally of Emmanuel Macron's center-right Renaissance party.

Following roughly three months in office, Michel Barnier was removed by parliament following a vote of no confidence in the prime minister. This appointment follows his removal.
